Gargoyles Goliath Figure: Classic Video Game vs Standard

Category: Comparisons
Two Ultimate Goliath figures, two different reasons to buy. Compare the Classic Video Game deco and packaging against the standard release before you choose.
Quick answer
Pick the Classic Video Game Appearance Goliath if you want a display piece that recreates the 1990s game tribute, box and all. Pick the standard Ultimate Goliath if you want the straightforward leader figure with the full 16-inch wingspan and no game-specific styling.
The real difference is deco and packaging, not size
Both figures are 7-inch scale Ultimate Goliath releases, and the catalog lists both at approximately 8 inches tall. Neither record lists a different articulation count or accessory set, so do not assume one is more poseable than the other. The split comes down to presentation: the Classic Video Game Appearance version carries special deco tied to the 1990s game and ships in packaging styled like the original game box. The standard version is the character as Goliath appears in the animated series.
That matters most if you keep figures boxed. The game-box packaging is a display object in its own right, while the standard release is the cleaner choice for an opener who only cares about the figure.
Price and catalog data you can actually compare
The catalog lists the Classic Video Game Appearance Goliath at USD 24.78 against a comparison price of USD 36.99, and the standard Ultimate Goliath at USD 22.56 against the same USD 36.99 comparison price. Those are catalog figures, not a promise about current checkout pricing, so confirm at purchase. The gap is small enough that price alone should not decide it for you.
One honest limitation: the catalog does not list a full accessory breakdown or a joint count for either release. If those details are deal-breakers, ask before ordering rather than assuming the two are identical.
Trade-offs to weigh before you choose
- Game-specific deco vs series-accurate look: The Classic Video Game Appearance figure uses special deco tied to the 1990s game. The standard figure presents Goliath as the animated-series leader. Choose based on which look you want on the shelf, not on which is more accurate, because they are aiming at different references.
- Display box vs open display: The game-box packaging rewards collectors who keep figures boxed. If you open everything, that packaging advantage mostly disappears, and the standard release becomes the simpler buy. Decide boxed or opened before comparing prices.
- Wingspan and shelf space: The standard Ultimate Goliath is listed with a 16-inch wingspan at roughly 8 inches tall. The Classic Video Game Appearance record does not state a wingspan, so plan for a wide footprint on either and verify the Classic version's dimensions if space is tight.
